LIGHT STICKS ARE ESSTENTIAL FOR MAINTAINING HIGH CATCH RATES
In the commercial fishing industry, glow sticks are widely used as attractants in longline fishing for predator species such as Tuna, Swordfish, and Marlin and can improve catch rates by 156x. They are essential for many types of fishing operations, and one company can go through up to 8 million units annually.
However, these single-use items often end up lost at sea, contributing to marine pollution. This not only harms the very ecosystems that the fishing industry depends on, but also goes against increasing regulations and public pressure for sustainable fishing practices.Many Fisheries are working on reducing plastic gear and managing 'ghost gear' in order to meet the new MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) regulations, or are working on FIP (Fisheries Improvement Plans) to increase sustainability.

RESOLUTION
What if the fishing industry could maintain the effectiveness of their operations while significantly reducing their environmental impact? The Lume provides a sustainable alternative to traditional glow sticks. Its reusable nature means less waste, and if accidentally lost overboard, its compostable materials won't harm marine life. This allows the fishing industry to maintain necessary lighting for operations and safety, while aligning with sustainable fishing practices.
The Government of Australia has championed the Great Barrier Reef Source Reduction Plan for Professional Fishing use of Light Sticks - and orginally found that there were no viable alternatives.
We are currently working with Tuna Australia, Ocean Watch Australia, and the Tangaroa Blue Foundation to test
Lux Bio glow stick alternatives compared to traditional light sticks.
