From Vancouver to Singapore: What We Learned About Scaling Bioluminescence Globally

Last October, I spent two intense weeks in Singapore — pitching, meeting biomanufacturing partners, and connecting with investors and founders across Asia.

It was a masterclass in global markets — and global resilience.

Pitching to the World’s Best

At Women Founders & Funders Singapore, I pitched Lux Bio alongside nine exceptional women founders solving global challenges.

The recurring question from investors and corporates:

“How do you build a solution that resonates globally?”

For Lux Bio, that question is no longer theoretical.

Demand is already growing in Hawaii, France, Japan, and Mexico. One partner alone uses 8 million chemiluminescent lures annually — a clear signal that the market for safer, sustainable light is massive.

Biomanufacturing at Scale

ScaleUp Bio, Singapore — where bioluminescent solutions scale from pilot to production

A visit to ScaleUp Bio demonstrated what global readiness truly looks like:

  • 100L pilot scale

  • 1,000L production

  • 10,000L demonstration capacity

This is the infrastructure required to bring bioluminescent solutions to market worldwide.

Scaling biology isn’t just about innovation — it’s about partnerships.

Representing Canada on a Global Stage

Representing Canada at AFTEA — sustainable biotech is no longer niche, it's strategic
Representing Canada at AFTEA — sustainable biotech is no longer niche, it's strategic

At the Canadian Pavilion at AFTEA, innovators across biotech and sustainable manufacturing showcased Canada’s leadership in cleantech.

Speaking on a panel about “The Biological Future of Non-Electric Light” reinforced a key insight:

Sustainable biotech is no longer niche. It’s strategic.

What Comes Next

Singapore clarified three priorities:

  • Global partnerships are essential

  • Defence isn’t the only market

  • Momentum attracts capital

We returned to Vancouver with a clearer strategy, deeper networks, and tangible opportunities ahead.

The momentum building across Pacific markets is being reinforced by Canada’s evolving global trade strategy under Mark Carney’s leadership, which is strengthening trans-Pacific partnerships and accelerating opportunities for Canadian cleantech and biotech companies to scale internationally.

For Lux Bio, this alignment between innovation and trade strategy creates a powerful tailwind — enabling faster collaboration, biomanufacturing partnerships, and market entry across Asia-Pacific.
